Auren 1

Auren Playing Board

Faction Strength: 2

Race Overview

Ability

None.  Auren are a fairly “standard” race.

Stronghold

After building the Stronghold, immediately and only once get 1 Favor tile. Also, take an Action token. As a Special action (once per Action phase), you may advance 2 spaces on a Cult track of your choice (or on space 10 if you have a key). Use the Action token to keep track of using this Special action.

Strategy

While the Auren can be played well and do adequately, they are not one of the strongest races, chiefly because their Stronghold ability actually gives only slightly more than Temple would (2 cult points / round = 1 priest), and the extra cost only gives 2 power income.

To get around this, you have to use the Stronghold more as a points-grab; you want to build it when it’s most advantageous to do so, and you want to grab the Stronghold bonus tile thereafter (if it’s out).

Auren’s only advantage is their flexibility, and their colour. Green has some decents spots all over the board, and while not quite as good as brown, they don’t tend to get boxed in as badly as some other races.

Situational Starting Locations:

G-8 & F-2

A-3 & D-1

C-7 & D-1

Every time I’ve been in a game with the Aurens they’ve absolutely destroyed the cult track. If you get the stronghold early I find they’re very tough to beat.
